When Life Gives You Eight Bags of Apples, Make Apple Crisp

Last week, I ordered eight apples from Walmart. Somewhere between my online order and my groceries arriving, those eight apples became eight bags of Granny Smith apples.
Was it my mistake or theirs? I’m still not sure. But suddenly, I had a lot of apples to use.
So, naturally, I made apple crisp!

This recipe comes from my grandmother, with a little tweaking from me. It uses simple pantry ingredients, and the most time-consuming part is peeling and slicing the apples. An apple slicer made the slicing much quicker, and my kids even enjoyed helping.

I ended up making three apple crisps, and somehow my family still wasn’t tired of them. Serve yours warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream—or both. I won’t judge.

Makes: One 8-inch square pan
Baking time: About 40 minutes
Oven temperature: 350°F
Ingredients:
5-6 cups sliced and peeled apples
1/4 cup water
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup melted butter
Directions:
Spread 5-6 cups of apples in an 8-inch square baking pan.
Sprinkle with a mixture of water, lemon juice, cinnamon and salt.
Mix sugar, flour, oatmeal and butter until crumbly.
Spread crumb mixture over the apples.
Bake uncovered for 40min at 350 degrees.
Serve with vanilla ice cream.
What would you make if eight bags of apples showed up with your groceries? Leave your ideas in the comments. I could use a few more!
And if you try this apple crisp, I’d love to hear how it turns out.
