When the World Feels Heavy, Is It Okay to Keep Creating?

For almost a year now, I’ve been really quiet online. Not because I stopped creating, not because I ran out of ideas, but because I’ve been struggling with heavy thoughts.
Every time I open social media, it feels overwhelming. It’s constant bad news from every direction, and it’s been weighing on me.
And I’ve found myself thinking:
"How can I share about crafting when the world feels this broken?"
"How can I talk about art when people are just trying to survive?"
I've felt real guilt about creating anything “pretty,” and honestly, that guilt made me go quiet.

The Internal Tug-of-War
I love making things. Sewing dresses. Creating art. Photography. That’s always been my way, but over the last year, every time I tried to share something, a voice in my head would say:
“This isn’t important.”
“This feels small.”
“Who cares about this right now?”
So I pulled back, but here’s what I’ve realized. Silencing myself didn’t actually help anyone. It just made me feel more disconnected.
Creating Doesn’t Mean You Don’t Care
I think somewhere along the way I started believing that if I kept creating, it meant I wasn’t taking the world seriously, but that’s not true. You can create while caring about others, staying informed, donating, voting, and speaking up in ways that align with your values.
Creating art and beauty doesn’t cancel out compassion. If anything, it reminds us why we care in the first place.
Children Still Deserve Joy
Most of my work revolves around children. I sew for them, photograph them, build imagination around them. The truth is childhood matters. Kids still deserve magic, deserve to feel special, deserve moments of softness, even in hard times. Especially in hard times.
My creating dresses or art isn’t ignoring suffering. It’s nurturing something good in my own home and community, and that counts.
I Can’t Carry the Whole World
This has been the hardest realization for me. I am not meant to carry the world on my shoulders. None of us can, but I can care, stay aware, and raise compassionate children. I can contribute in small, meaningful ways, but I cannot fix everything.
If I stop creating out of guilt, the world won’t improve; it just loses one more person choosing to make something beautiful.
Moving Forward
I don’t have this perfectly figured out.
But I do know this:
I don’t want fear and heaviness to silence me anymore.
I want to create thoughtfully.
I want to stay grounded.
I want to use my little corner of the internet to share things that feel gentle and intentional.
This is the main reason for starting this blog. I want to share more thoughtfully on here and not give more power to tech billionaires who don't care about me or how their platforms affect our world.
If you’ve been feeling this weight too, especially if you’re a creative, I understand.
If This Resonates

I have missed your posts & honestly, everything you've written I've been feeling the exact same way! I'd be so grateful to follow your lead and take a small step toward creating again. The weight wont lift all at once I know but one project at a time we can chip away at it.
